Injustice 2 #1, released by DC Comics on May 3, 2017, begins a new digital-first comic series that acts as a canonical prequel to the Injustice 2 video game. The series is written by Tom Taylor, the same writer as the critically acclaimed first Injustice prequel series.

Storyline Overview

The issue establishes the new status quo for the DC Universe following the fall of Superman's oppressive Regime and Batman's Insurgency taking control.

  • The Aftermath of the Regime: Superman is imprisoned, and the world is in chaos as the Insurgency tries to maintain order and rebuild society while dealing with the remnants of Superman's followers.
  • A New Threat: The primary conflict is introduced: the emergence of the terrorist organization Ra's al Ghul, who is determined to purify the world through extreme environmentalism. Ra's uses a powerful combination of magic and technology (including robotic gorillas led by Gorilla Grodd).
  • Batman's Challenge: Batman (Bruce Wayne) finds himself in the difficult position of trying to stop Ra's al Ghul's global eco-terrorism while also handling the broken society he inherited. He is forced to manage the world’s transition to peace, which proves to be nearly as difficult as the war itself.
  • Harley Quinn's Role: The issue also reintroduces Harley Quinn, who is trying to find her place in this new, more serious world and adjust to life without a war to fight.

Key Characters

  • Batman (Bruce Wayne): Now responsible for leading the rebuilding effort.
  • Superman (Clark Kent): Imprisoned and powerless.
