Justice League #1, published by DC Comics on July 20, 2016, is the start of a new series (Volume 3) that is part of the DC Rebirth relaunch. Written by Bryan Hitch with art by Tony S. Daniel, the issue initiates the storyline "The Extinction Machines", focusing on a global cataclysm and a revamped team roster.

Storyline Overview: "The Extinction Machines, Part One"

The narrative opens with massive, unexplainable earthquakes striking every fault line around the world simultaneously, indicating an extinction-level event. The Justice League members spring into action, each dealing with the local fallout and mysterious insect-like creatures emerging from a crash site in Gotham.

  • The Threat: An ancient power, known as the "Kindred", rises with "Extinction Machines" designed to remake Earth and its people into living weapons.
  • The New Members: With the New 52 Superman dead and Hal Jordan off-world, the League must contend with new faces: an older, wiser Superman from a vanished universe and two rookie Green Lanterns, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz.
  • The Conflict: The team is largely a set of strangers to the new Superman, leading to immediate trust issues, particularly from Batman and Wonder Woman. They must quickly overcome these tensions as they face a global catastrophe and a villainous alien entity.
