Justice League #4 (published in February 2012) is a pivotal chapter in the New 52 origin story, featuring the high-profile creative team of writer Geoff Johns and artist Jim Lee. The issue is most significant for the official birth of Cyborg and the first full appearance of the cosmic tyrant Darkseid.

Plot Summary: "Justice League: Part Four"

  • The Birth of Cyborg: Following a lab explosion in the previous issue, Dr. Silas Stone uses experimental "promethium" and alien technology to save his son, Victor Stone. Victor wakes up in the Red Room of S.T.A.R. Labs to find he has been transformed into a cyborg. His new body's operating system automatically downloads alien data and defends him against a Parademon attack with a "White Noise Cannon".
  • The League Gathers: In Metropolis, the other heroes—Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, and the newly arrived Aquaman—engage in a tense debate over leadership and strategy. Aquaman immediately asserts authority, leading to a brief clash of egos with Green Lantern.
  • Darkseid Arrives: Cyborg accidentally triggers a Boom Tube that transports him directly to the other heroes. He attempts to warn them of an impending threat just as Darkseid himself emerges, unleashing a violent explosion that renders the entire group unconscious.
