King: The Phantom # 1, released by Dynamite Entertainment on January 28, 2015, is a reimagining of the classic character as part of a crossover event celebrating the 100th anniversary of King Features Syndicate. 

The series is set in the immediate aftermath of the Kings Watch miniseries, in a world where an invasion by Ming the Merciless has devastated Earth's infrastructure and knocked technological levels back by roughly 100 years. 

• The New Phantom: Following the death of the 22nd Phantom, Lothar Kehwabe (traditionally Mandrake the Magician’s assistant) temporarily dons the purple suit and skull ring. He acts as the "Ghost Who Walks" to honor a debt to his fallen friend and protect the region of Bangalla.
• The Mission: While searching for the rightful Walker heir to continue the 400-year legacy, Lothar must combat the Singh Group, a criminal organization exploiting the global chaos to sabotage recovery efforts.
• Key Conflict: Lothar and his aide, Guran, go undercover as crime lords to infiltrate the "Vultures" (a faction of the Singh Group) to uncover their ultimate goal.
