Knight Terrors: Black Adam # 1 2023 NM-

Knight Terrors: Black Adam # 1, released by DC Comics on July 4, 2023, is the first of a two-part tie-in to the Knight Terrors crossover event. Written and illustrated by Jeremy Haun, with colors by Nick Filardi, the issue explores the deep-seated fears of the powerful Kahndaqi monarch as he is plunged into a global "nightmare wave". 

The Monarch's Nightmare 

The story centers on Black Adam's struggle against the reality-altering influence of the villain Insomnia. 

• The Nightmare Wave: While defending Kahndaq from a border assault, Black Adam is swept into the nightmare realm alongside the rest of humanity.
• Powerlessness: In this dreamscape, Adam is stripped of his god-like abilities, returning to his mortal form, Teth-Adam. He finds himself in an alternate version of Kahndaq where even the Rock of Eternity appears corrupted with Cthulhu-like tentacles.
• Familiar Tragedy: Guided by a talking cat named Bast, Adam traverses a landscape of his own failures. He is forced to witness a giant crocodile, Sobek (a reference to the 2006 52 series), brutally killing his long-dead family, Isis and Osiris.
• Deadman's Warning: The issue ends with the appearance of a "Batman" who is actually Deadman (Boston Brand) in disguise, warning Adam that Insomnia has put the entire world to sleep.  
• Creator: Jeremy Haun handles both writing and art, giving the issue a distinct horror-fantasy aesthetic.
• Nostalgia: The story heavily references the tragedy of the Black Marvel Family from the 52 series, marking a significant return of these characters to modern continuity.
