Plot Synopsis

The story kicks off when a terrifying new supernatural villain named Insomnia releases a global "nightmare wave". Inside his own subconscious mind, Clark Kent initially experiences a normal day at the Daily Planet cbr.com. However, his reality quickly distorts as Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Perry White transform into ghoulish entities cbr.com. Insomnia intercepts Clark's mind to exploit his deepest, hidden anxieties:

• The Burden of Isolation: Because of his near-immortality, Clark deeply fears outliving everyone he loves and being left completely alone in the universe
• The Harbinger of Death: He worries that sending him to Earth was like firing a bullet at the planet, fearing he will ultimately fail to protect Earth the exact same way Krypton was destroyed
• Obsolescence: A deep fear that the world might change to a point where it no longer needs a Superman, robbing him of his fundamental purpose

These fears manifest physically as a monstrous, demonic entity called the Super-Reaper (or the Man of Screams), who relentlessly stalks the Man of Steel cbr.com.
