Legion of Super-Heroes # 1 (Vol. 7), published by DC Comics in November 2019 (commonly associated with the 2020 series launch), marks a major "reinvention" of the legendary 31st-century team. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Ryan Sook, this run officially rebooted the Legion's continuity following the events of Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium.

Story Synopsis: "The Future is Now"

The story is set 1,000 years into the future, where a new generation of idealistic heroes has gathered to prevent the galaxy from repeating the mistakes of the past.

  • Superboy's Induction: The core plot follows the Legion’s controversial decision to break the United Planets' "cardinal rule" by recruiting Jon Kent (Superboy) from the 21st century.
  • The Conflict: The issue opens with a high-stakes battle between Legionnaires—including Ultra Boy, Karate Kid, Wildfire, and Star Boy—and the villainous Horraz over a powerful artifact: Aquaman's long-lost trident.
  • Jon's Arrival: Saturn Girl brings Jon to the 31st century for the first time, where he is shocked by the drastic changes to Earth, which has been terraformed into a cluster of artificial "cities".
  • The Mystery: The narrative hints that the Legion is hiding a significant secret about their purpose for bringing Jon to the future, which is somehow connected to the impending threat facing New Earth.
  • Writer: Brian Michael Bendis.
  • Artist: Ryan Sook.
  • Major Debuts: This era introduced several new Legionnaires, including Gold Lantern and Monster Boy.
