Lobo: Portrait of a Victim #1 is a 1993 one-shot comic that explores the "Main Man's" signature ultra-violence through the perspective of an innocent bystander whose life is ruined by a chance encounter.

Story Synopsis

The narrative centers on John Doe, a regular man who has a typical bad day at home and decides to visit a local bar for a beer with his friends.

  • The Incident: Unfortunately for Doe, Lobo is at the same bar for a date. A typical "Lobo-style" rampage ensues, resulting in a healthy dose of "fraggin' fun" that leaves John Doe semi-fatally injured and hospital-bound.
  • The Hospital Framing: The story is framed by Doe lying in a hospital bed in a full-body cast, recalling the events that led to his condition.
  • The Final Twist: Just as Doe is finishing his report on the incident, Lobo arrives to "process his insurance claim". Lobo realizes Doe is accusing him, denies the claim, and proceeds to brutalize him further for his "theft" of Lobo's time.

  • Writer: Alan Grant.
  • Artists: Val Semeiks (Pencils) and John Dell (Inks).
  • Cover: A distinct painted cover by Glenn Fabry.
  • Rating: The comic was intended for mature readers due to its depiction of "appalling violence".
