Marvel Knights X-Men # 1 (2014) is the beginning of a five-issue miniseries that tells a gritty, self-contained murder mystery about a small team of X-Men investigating the disappearance and murder of new mutants in a remote, unwelcoming town. The story is written and illustrated entirely by Brahm Revel, and is praised for its atmospheric artwork and focus on characterization over complex continuity.
Story Synopsis: "Haunted: Part One"
Wolverine, Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat), and Rogue go on a road trip to a secluded, backwoods town in the American South to investigate a string of missing persons reports believed to involve young mutants. Their mission is to locate and rescue two endangered mutant teenagers, a task that reflects the X-Men's core philosophy of protecting their own.
Upon arrival, the team is met with immediate hostility from the local populace. The X-Men's help is unwelcome in this insular community which has its own harsh rules regarding outsiders and mutants. The first issue sets up a tense atmosphere as the heroes encounter their first young mutant, only to be ambushed by enemies, leading to a fight that forces them to confront threats, some of which are illusions based on their own past villains.
