Marvel Mangaverse: Fantastic Four # 1 March 2002 is a one-shot comic that reimagines Marvel's First Family through a manga-inspired lens. Written by Adam Warren and illustrated by Keron Grant, the story shifts the team's origin from an accidental space flight to a high-tech lunar disaster.

The story centers on a shadowy government program testing radical new technologies on a secret lunar base.

  • The Incident: An experiment on the Moon goes catastrophically wrong, destroying the base and killing almost all test subjects.
  • The Survivors: Only four young subjects survive the blast, which also propels billions of tons of lunar mass into Earth's orbit.
  • The Team: Gifted with "reality-distorting meta-talents," the survivors form the Megascale Metatalent Response Team: Fantastic Four to defend Earth from invading anomalies.

The issue introduces reimagined versions of the classic team members and their cosmic foes:

  • The Team: Features Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sioux Storm (Invisible Woman), Jonatha Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing).
  • Annihilus: The massive energy surge from the lunar explosion attracts attention from across the galaxy, prompting the entity Annihilus to investigate humanity's lethal new technology.
  • Supporting Cast: Includes Mangaverse versions of Agatha Harkness, Alicia Masters, and The Watcher.

Unlike the traditional Silver Age style, this comic utilizes dynamic manga-inspired visuals and sci-fi elements like augmentation suits and giant monster combat. It is part of the broader Marvel Mangaverse initiative, which applied contemporary Japanese-influenced aesthetics to classic Marvel characters.
