Marvel Mangaverse: Ghost Riders # 1 March 2002 is a one-shot comic that reimagines Ghost Rider within the Marvel Mangaverse (Earth-2301). Written and illustrated by Chuck Austen, the issue shifts the classic Spirit of Vengeance lore into a sibling rivalry focused on the "Sons of Satan".
"Sons of Satan"
The story takes place in New York City amidst the chaos of a 12-story-tall, rampaging Hulk-monster.
- The Meeting: Damon Hellstorm (Son of Satan) meets with Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle enthusiast, to reveal a secret. He explains that they are actually brothers—half-breed "Sons of Satan" marked with pentagrams.
- The Transformation: Their meeting is interrupted by their sister, Satana, who emerges from a church with a demonic army sent by their father to kill them. Damon uses his hellfire trident to transform Johnny into the Ghost Rider for the first time.
- The Battle: The brothers fight through the demon hordes to confront Satana. In the climax, Johnny throws the trident at Satana but instead strikes the rampaging Hulk behind her.
- Writer/Artist: Chuck Austen (also responsible for the cover art, colors, and inks).
- Main Characters: Johnny Blaze (Ghost Rider), Damon Hellstorm, Satana, and the Hulk.
- Concept: Co-conceived by Brian Smith and Chuck Austen.
