Marvel Tales #98, published in December 1978, is a highly significant Bronze Age issue because it contains the first-ever reprint of the historic "The Night Gwen Stacy Died" storyline.
Main Story: "The Night Gwen Stacy Died!"
This issue reprints the legendary Amazing Spider-Man #121 (1973).
- The Plot: Following his son Harry's drug overdose, a mentally unstable Norman Osborn regains his memories as the Green Goblin. He kidnaps Gwen Stacy and takes her to the top of a bridge (depicted as the Brooklyn Bridge, though scripted as the George Washington Bridge).
- The Outcome: During the battle, the Goblin knocks Gwen off the bridge. Spider-Man catches her with his webbing, but the sudden stop causes a fatal whiplash, resulting in her death. This event is widely considered one of the most pivotal "turning points" in comic book history.
- Creative Team: Written by Gerry Conway, with pencils by Gil Kane and iconic cover and interior inks by John Romita Sr.
