Marvel Team-Up Annual #7 (1984) is a double-length special titled "The Collected Spider-Man". It is notable for featuring Spider-Man in his iconic black alien symbiote costume and his first interaction with the Canadian superhero team, Alpha Flight.

Main Story: "The Collected Spider-Man"

The plot centers on the Elder of the Universe known as The Collector, who returns to capture specimens for his collection to "preserve" them from a foreseen universal destruction.

  • The Capture: The Collector successfully captures Spider-Man and Marrina of Alpha Flight, imprisoning them in a pocket dimension called the "Pearl of Great Price".
  • The Rescue: Marrina manages to send a distress signal to her teammates—Aurora, Northstar, Puck, and Sasquatch—who storm the Collector's starship for a rescue mission.
  • The Resolution: The heroes eventually convince The Collector to leave Earth by helping him repair his ship, specifically to remove the threat of a predatory alien race known as the Plodex.

Supplemental Content

As a 48-page "Giant," the issue includes a backup story titled "No Place to Run".

  • Perspective: It provides a rare look at a superhero battle from the point of view of ordinary bystanders—a husband and wife in Albany, New York—as they watch Black Panther and the Human Torch battle Crimson Dynamo on the evening news.
