Marvel UK Super Soldiers # 1 1993 NM-

Marvel UK Super Soldiers # 1, published in April 1993, launched an ongoing series set in the Marvel Universe and focused on a British government-sponsored superhero team. 

The team, named "Super Soldiers", consists of enhanced operatives given a variation of the Super Soldier serum that originally created Captain America. The debut issue, titled "Invincible," sets up a post-Cold War espionage narrative. 

• Backstory: The series reveals that the British Super Soldier program was active in the late 1980s but was officially shut down after a mission in Southeast Asia (on the Thai/Cambodian border) resulted in catastrophic failure and the apparent deaths of several team members.
• Present Day: The main character, Joseph Hauer (code name Invincible), the last of the project's subjects, is in cryo-suspension when he is suddenly awakened and forced back into duty in the "modern" world (the early 1990s). He is a man out of time, struggling to adapt to the new political landscape.
• Conflict: Hauer is tasked with tracking down the lost and potentially rogue former team member known only as "Childs". The issue features a guest appearance by the U.S. government operative, the U.S. Agent (John Walker), adding a transatlantic dimension to the super-soldier programs. The story establishes a tone of dark espionage and government conspiracy.
