Master of Kung Fu # 1 (2015) is the debut issue of a four-part limited series set during Marvel's Secret Wars event on the patchwork planet of Battleworld.

• Setting: The mystical realm of K'un-Lun, where martial arts ability determines social status and legal power.
• Plot: The story reimagines Shang-Chi as a "drunken dropout" and wanted murderer living among the Lower Caste. He has taken a vow of peace but must confront his father, Emperor Zheng Zu (a version of Fu Manchu/the Mandarin), who rules the domain.
• Key Conflict: To topple his father, Shang-Chi must survive the Thirteen Chambers, a tournament held every 13 years to determine the realm's next Emperor. 
• Shang-Chi: The protagonist, portrayed here as a master of the "Drunken Monkey" style.
• Zheng Zu: The long-lived Emperor of K'un-Lun and Shang-Chi's father.
• Daniel Rand (Iron Fist): Appears as a rival who seeks to kill Shang-Chi to avenge his master, Lord Tuan.
• Enemies: Assassins like Red Sai, Laughing Skull, and the royal guard (Razor Fist, Typhus, and Nightwind).
