Picking up after their recent reunion at the end of the previous Midnighter series, Midnighter and Apollo are back together as partners and lovers.
- Subway Pirates: The issue begins with the pair fighting "subway pirates" in Los Angeles and demons in Opal City. During the action, Apollo is disturbed by Midnighter's brutal methods, highlighting a difference in their approaches.
- Bendix's Scheme: The villainous Henry Bendix, the man who originally created Midnighter, sells a magical rifle, the Ace of Winchesters, to the Lords of the Gun, planning to make the heroes suffer.
- Apollo's Fate: Bendix arranges for the demon Mawzir to attack Apollo, leading to Apollo's soul being dragged to Hell. Midnighter kills Bendix (who gives him a choice between killing him or teleporting immediately to Apollo) and then seeks the help of the magician Extraño to mount a rescue mission into the underworld.
