Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1 by writer Cody Ziglar and artist Federico Vicentini marks the grand opening of the character's fifth ongoing volume, titled "Trial by Spider: Part One." Formally released to single-issue comic shops in late December 2022, this issue sets up a grounded, back-to-basics era for the young wall-crawler.
Plot Synopsis
Miles is finding out that being a full-time friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is easier said than done. The grueling toll of his double life has pushed him to his absolute limit as he desperately tries to balance homework, family responsibilities, and a chaotic high school social circle. Making things worse, Peter Parker isn't around to give him a mentor pep-talk, forcing Miles to process his heavy burnout entirely alone. To cope with his mounting anxiety, Miles' therapist has him writing down his internal struggles in a journal.
His stress spikes when a souped-up, heavily upgraded Scorpion (Mac Gargan) starts tearing through Brooklyn. Miles leaps into action to stop the threat, but the intense street battle catches the attention of Agent Gao and her strict anti-superhero task force. This opens a dual front where Miles is hunted by the police while fighting criminals.
Unbeknownst to Miles, his public struggles are being meticulously cataloged from the shadows. A brand-new supervillain named Rabble is orchestrating a master plan to completely destroy the Morales family.
