Monkey Prince # 1 2022 NM-

Monkey Prince # 1, released on February 1, 2022, introduces Marcus Sun, a skittish teenager and "henchperson" offspring who discovers he is the son of the legendary Monkey King (Sun Wukong). Written by Gene Luen Yang and illustrated by Bernard Chang, the issue marks the character's solo debut following a brief introduction in the DC Festival of Heroes anthology. 

Marcus Shugel-Shen is a new student at Gotham City High School whose adoptive parents are career scientists and freelance henchpeople for villains like the Penguin. 

• The Trauma: Marcus suffers from severe phobias and panic attacks triggered by a childhood encounter with Batman, who broke into his home to interrogate his parents.
• The Transformation: After being bullied and thrown into a pool, Marcus is transported to the Water Curtain Cave, where he meets Pigsy (Mr. Zhu), a comrade of the Monkey King. Pigsy places a circlet on his head, awakening his dormant powers as the Monkey Prince.
• The Cliffhanger: Marcus returns to his school transformed and attempts to get revenge on his bullies. However, he is confronted by Batman and Robin. During a panic attack, Marcus freezes, and a batarang intended to disarm him is deflected by a bully, resulting in Marcus being decapitated. 

Powers and Abilities 

As the Monkey Prince, Marcus possesses a wide range of mythical abilities: 

• Physical Feats: Superhuman strength, agility, and reflexes.
• Shape-Shifting & Cloning: He can assume the form of others and create clones of himself from his own hair.
• Immortality: He can survive decapitation and reattach severed body parts, provided he remains in his monkey form.
• Weaponry: He wields a duplicate of his father's legendary staff, the Ruyi Jingu Bang.
