Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur # 1, published by Marvel Comics on November 25, 2015 (with a cover date of January 2016), introduces Lunella Lafayette, a brilliant pre-teen and one of the most intelligent characters in the Marvel Universe, alongside her unlikely partner, a massive red dinosaur.
"BFF"
The story centers on Lunella Lafayette, a young girl attending P.S. 20 (The George Washington Carver School for Science and Innovation) in Lower Manhattan. She is a genius and an inventor who feels like an outsider, constantly correcting her teachers and classmates.
- The Inhuman Gene: Lunella knows she possesses the Inhuman gene, which could activate at any moment and potentially transform her into a monster—her greatest fear.
- Kree Technology: To prepare for her transformation, she secretly works on deciphering an old Kree alien device (the "Omni-Wave Projector") which she scavenged.
- The Dinosaur Arrives: In the Savage Land, the villainous Killer Folk kill Devil Dinosaur's original partner, Moon-Boy. The Omni-Wave Projector is accidentally activated during the fight, creating a portal that transports Devil Dinosaur to Lunella's classroom in New York City.
- A New Partnership: Lunella discovers her Inhuman powers have activated: her brain has swapped minds with the dinosaur. This mind-swap is the start of their reluctant partnership.
