Namor, the Sub-Mariner # 37, published in April 1993, is an issue where Namor and his allies confront the evil sorcerer Suma-Ket in a deadly battle that determines the fate of Atlantis and results in a significant power restoration for Namor himself. The cover of this issue features a special holo-foil treatment.
The story, titled "When Princely Blood Is Shed," is a straightforward confrontation chapter that is part of a longer storyline.
- The Threat of Suma-Ket: Namor and his undersea allies, including Tamara Rahn and Tiger Shark, confront the powerful and evil Suma-Ket. The villain poses an existential threat to Atlantis, and if Namor were to fall, the kingdom would be doomed.
- A Divine Intervention: As the battle rages and the situation becomes dire, the sea god Neptune (Poseidon) intervenes.
- Restoration of Powers: Neptune's intercession serves to "fix" Namor's character, restoring something that John Byrne's earlier run had changed: Namor's lost ability to fly (his ankle wings) is returned, and he is bestowed with a set of golden armor. This moment allows the writer to reset Namor's power set and status quo.
