Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. # 1 1989 VF/NM

Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. # 1, published in September 1989, is the first issue of a new series (Volume 3) that sees Nick Fury come out of retirement to investigate a series of assassinations tied to an old, extraterrestrial threat. 

The issue, titled "The Past Still Haunts", follows Nick Fury, who has essentially been in retirement following a major internal shakeup within the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D.. 

• Assassinations: High-ranking intelligence operatives, many of whom were Fury's old contacts and colleagues, are being systematically assassinated.
• The Investigation: Fury begins an investigation that leads him to an unexpected, and potentially extraterrestrial, threat.
• The WWII Connection: The trail leads back to a plot initiated by Fury's old World War II nemesis, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, suggesting a long-buried conspiracy is resurfacing.
• Allies: Realizing the scope of the threat, Fury understands he cannot tackle it alone. He calls on trusted allies, including Dum Dum Dugan, the alluring Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and even Captain America, to help him.
• A New Villain: The story introduces the villain Wilhelm Schmidt, also known as the new Hydra head's agent.
