Nightcrawler # 3, published in January 1986, continues the X-Man's strange journey through a series of alien dimensions, where he must contend with the consequences of his actions and a new, unexpected character development.
The story, titled "Little Kurt's Story," picks up immediately after Nightcrawler is accidentally teleported from Shagreen's citadel to a new dimension, where he is confronted by a strange dwarf-like creature that calls him "Daddy."
- Paternity Claims: The creature, which resembles Nightcrawler in appearance, is indeed his biological son, a product of his brief encounter with the princess from the previous dimension. Nightcrawler, a devout Catholic, is in disbelief and moral distress over this turn of events.
- The Sorcerer Strikes Back: Shagreen, the shark-faced sorcerer from the second issue, discovers a way to track Nightcrawler across dimensions. Enraged by the loss of his intended sacrifice, the princess, Shagreen follows Nightcrawler to his current location.
- A Familiar Foe: In this new dimension, Nightcrawler and his "son" encounter the pirates from the first issue, who are now themselves fleeing Shagreen's wrath. Nightcrawler, displaying his heroic nature, helps his former captors in their escape.
- The Chase Continues: Shagreen proves to be a relentless pursuer. The issue ends with Nightcrawler, his son, and the pirate crew in a precarious position, with the sorcerer closing in for revenge.
This issue continues to be written and drawn by Dave Cockrum, who uses the miniseries to explore the lighter, more whimsical side of the Marvel Universe and the character he co-created. The focus remains on adventure, humor, and slightly absurd plot twists.
