One Piece: Ace's Story (The Manga) was a featured title for Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) 2024, published by VIZ Media. This special issue provides a preview of the origin story of Portgas D. Ace, the legendary older brother of Monkey D. Luffy.

The comic focuses on Ace’s early days as a pirate, adapted from the One Piece: Ace’s Story light novels and illustrated by Boichi, the artist of Dr. Stone.

Key plot points covered in the series include:

  • The Deserted Island: Ace is shipwrecked on a barren island in the East Blue where he meets a man who has discarded his name. Ace gives him the pen name "Masked Deuce," and he becomes the first member of the Spade Pirates.
  • The Mera Mera no Mi: The story depicts the moment Ace and Deuce discover a mysterious fruit on the island. After sharing it, Ace gains the flame-producing powers that earned him the nickname "Fire Fist".
  • Forming the Crew: The narrative follows Ace as he gathers a ragtag crew—including Mihar, Skull, and the lynx Kotatsu—and begins his ascent toward the New World.
  • Legendary Encounters: The prequel explores his early interactions with major figures like Jinbe, Shanks, and eventually Whitebeard.

The FCBD 2024 issue was a flipbook that also included a preview of Status Royale, an e-sports themed manga. While the FCBD version is a promotional excerpt, the full story is available in a multi-volume manga series.
