Origin II # 1, a five-issue limited series published in January 2014, is a prequel that delves further into the mysterious early life of the character who would become Wolverine. Written by Kieron Gillen with fully painted art by Adam Kubert, the story takes place decades after the original Origin miniseries and focuses on Logan's existence as a feral man in the wild and his eventual capture and entry into human society.
- Decades After "Origin": The narrative fast-forwards several decades from the end of the first Origin series. Logan, having fled human civilization after the trauma of his youth (killing his father and the death of Rose), now lives a completely feral life in the Canadian Rockies in the early 20th century.
- The Wild Life: He lives among a pack of wolves, operating entirely on instinct, hunting and surviving in the harsh wilderness. He has little to no memory of his human past.
- A New Character: Clara: The story introduces Clara, a woman who is part of a logging camp. She interacts with Logan, sensing something unique about him.
- The Villain: Nathaniel Essex: The antagonist of the story is revealed to be Nathaniel Essex, a Victorian-era scientist obsessed with evolution and mutation who would later become the classic X-Men villain Mister Sinister.
- Capture: Essex and his men, having heard legends of a "man-beast" with regenerative abilities, track Logan down. Through a combination of stealth and traps, they manage to capture the feral man in a silver cage.
- The Circus: The issue ends with Logan being taken from the wild to a horrifying new "home": a Victorian-era circus, where he is put on display as a freak of nature, setting the stage for his reintroduction to the cruel side of human society.
- Artwork: The series is noted for its lush, painted artwork by Adam Kubert, similar to the first Origin series, giving it an epic and classic feel.
- Continuity: The series connects Logan's early life more directly to the larger Marvel Universe by introducing Mister Sinister as a key figure in his capture and eventual integration back into the world.
