Outsiders # 1 2023 NM-

Outsiders # 1 released on November 14, 2023, launched a 12-issue maxiseries as part of the Dawn of DC initiative. Written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly with art by Robert Carey, this series reimagines the team not as a combat squad, but as "planetary archaeologists" investigating the hidden history and anomalies of the DC Multiverse. 

Story Synopsis: "The Archeology of the Impossible" 

Following the events of Gotham War, the team takes a hard pivot away from traditional superheroics. 

• The Funding: Luke Fox (Batwing) decides that the world doesn't need another Batman. He uses his immense resources to fund a secret mission to uncover the "cracks" in reality—the things that have been forgotten or hidden by various cosmic reboots.
• The Recruits: Luke recruits Kate Kane (Batwoman), who is seeking a new purpose outside of Gotham’s endless cycle of violence. They are joined by The Drummer, a mysterious woman who can "hear" the history of objects and information.
• The Mission: The team travels to a secret facility in the Antarctic. They aren't looking for a villain to punch; they are looking for a "Carrier"—a massive, sentient shift-ship from the Wildstorm universe (referencing The Authority) that is embedded in the ice.
• The Twist: The issue establishes a noir, high-concept sci-fi tone, paying heavy homage to the classic series Planetary. The team realizes they are in a "Universe-0" that is constantly being overwritten, and they intend to find out why.
