Primer # 1 2024 NM-

Primer # 1, published on March 26, 2024, is the debut issue of a four-part limited series that serializes and reprints the original 2020 Primer graphic novel for the first time in a periodical comic format. Written by Jennifer Muro and Thomas Krajewski with art by Gretel Lusky, the issue introduces the origin story of Ashley Rayburn. 

The story follows Ashley Rayburn, an upbeat 13-year-old girl with a history of moving between foster homes due to her father's incarceration in federal prison. Her life changes when she is taken in by a new foster couple, Kitch and Yuka Nolan. 

• The Discovery: Yuka is a geneticist working for a high-level tech company contracted by the military. She brings home a set of experimental top-secret body paints to keep them out of government hands.
• The Transformation: Ashley, an aspiring artist, discovers the paints and believes they are a gift. She soon realizes that when applied to her skin, the 33 different paint colors grant her a wide variety of superpowers.
• The Consequences: While Ashley uses these newfound powers for good, her activities quickly draw the attention of the military, who want their secret weapon back, putting her new family and friends in danger. 
• Ashley Rayburn (Primer): A teenager who can mix and match up to three superpowers at a time using magical body paint.
• Kitch Nolan: Ashley's supportive foster father, an eccentric artist who shares her passion for creativity.
• Yuka Nolan: Ashley's foster mother, a scientist who stole "Project Warpaint" to prevent its misuse.
• Luke: Ashley's new best friend who accompanies her when she first discovers the paints.
