Punisher/Captain America: Blood and Glory # 1, published in October 1992, is the first issue of a three-part prestige-format miniseries. The story explores a "drugs-for-guns" conspiracy and is notable for bringing Marvel's two most prominent soldiers into a direct, violent conflict.
The issue follows Captain America and the Punisher as they independently investigate an illegal arms ring linked to the U.S. government and a South American dictator.
- The Conspiracy: Captain America busts a weapons deal in Texas and discovers that the military hardware being sold is sabotaged to fail. His investigation leads him to suspect corruption within the Defense Intelligence Agency.
- The Manipulation: Angela Stone, an aide to the U.S. Attorney General and a co-conspirator, realizes Captain America is becoming a threat. She goes undercover and meets the Punisher, posing as a whistleblower.
- The Twist: Stone convinces the Punisher that the mastermind behind the illegal dealings is actually Captain America.
- The Cliffhanger: The issue concludes on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, where the Punisher, believing he is stopping a traitor, takes aim with a sniper rifle and fires a shot directly into Captain America's chest.
- Writers: D.G. Chichester and Margaret Clark.
- Artist: Klaus Janson, who provided both the pencils and inks for the series.
- Colorist: John Wellington.
