Red Lanterns: Futures End #1, released on September 24, 2014. Part of the "Five Years Later" event, it depicts a potential future where the Red Lantern Corps has grown into a mindless, monstrous horde terrorizing the universe.
Plot: "Blood Debts"
The story centers on a radical transformation of the Corps' leadership and mission five years into the future.
- Blue Lantern Guy Gardner: In a major twist, Guy Gardner has traded his red ring of rage for a Blue Lantern ring of hope. He has become a pacifist seeking to undo the "deadly mistake" of letting the Red Lantern ranks grow out of control.
- The Mission: Guy and his former teammate Bleez are on a quest to systematically eliminate the remaining Red Lanterns to bring peace to the galaxy.
- The Antagonist: They face Red King Jack (formerly the Red Lantern Rankorr), who has become a tyrannical ruler living in a red-construct "Buckingham Palace" in Sector 666.
- The Resolution: The issue ends on a hopeful note, with Guy and Bleez successfully purging the rage from the remaining lanterns, allowing them to revert to their pre-Red Lantern states.
