Set early in Jason Todd’s tenure as the second Robin, the story explores the "pre-broken" nature of a young boy struggling with deep-seated trauma and anger. 

• A Different Dynamic: Unlike the relatively stable partnership with Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne finds himself in a fraught relationship with a "rash, impulsive, and reckless" child whom he hoped to mold into a hero.
• The Struggle to Connect: Bruce attempts to be a more understanding mentor, but Jason’s trauma causes him to lash out and push limits, making Batman doubt his own ability to guide the boy.
• A New Threat: A mysterious and well-armed assassin named Wraith, shrouded in white cloth, arrives in Gotham and targets Jason directly.
• The First Mission: The issue depicts early instances of crime-fighting where Jason frequently goes off on his own, obsessed with taking down villains like the Cuckoo.
