Sleepwalker # 5, published in October 1991, is the fifth issue of the series starring the alien hero. The story focuses on Sleepwalker's ongoing struggle with Nightmare and the complex relationship he has with the human host, Rick Sheridan.

The issue, titled "Reunion," picks up with Sleepwalker having been captured and taken to the Dream Dimension by the villain Nightmare.

  • Trapped: Sleepwalker is trapped in Nightmare's dimension, where his powers are twisted and used against him. Nightmare attempts to mentally torture Sleepwalker by forcing him to relive past traumas and see twisted versions of his human life through Rick Sheridan's eyes.
  • Rick's Awareness: Back on Earth, Rick Sheridan, the human whose mind Sleepwalker is trapped within, becomes aware of Sleepwalker's predicament. He starts to understand the connection between them more clearly and feels a burgeoning sense of responsibility for his alien "partner".
  • The Power of Will: Through sheer willpower and his strong moral center, Sleepwalker manages to resist Nightmare's psychological attacks and begins to break free of his captivity.
  • Escape and Return: In a climactic moment, Sleepwalker uses the last of his strength to open a portal back to Earth. He escapes the Dream Dimension, weakened but free from Nightmare's immediate grasp. The issue concludes with Sleepwalker returning to Rick's consciousness, their bond strengthened by the shared ordeal.

The issue is primarily a psychological struggle, delving into the nature of dreams, fear, and the shared identity of the two characters.
