(scheduled for release on October 14, 2026) is the highly anticipated second issue of a 3-part prestige miniseries from Image Comics. Written by Todd McFarlane and co-written/illustrated with a painted horror aesthetic by artist Mark Spears, this series is a unique alternate-universe take based on McFarlane's original notebook doodles of Spawn from 1977—long before the character Al Simmons officially debuted in 1992.

The Plot & Setting

The miniseries drops the reader into a gritty, grimy, alternate 1970s New York City plagued by organized crime and street-level paranoia. Instead of a traditional Hellspawn who traded his soul to Malebolgia, this version follows "Tommy," a resurrected man out for revenge against the gangsters who wronged his family.

  • The Mission: In issue #2, Spawn continues his brutal, single-minded crusade to systematically dismantle the city's powerful mafia syndicates and rid the streets of their corruption.
  • The Divine Twist: His relentless vigilantism catches the eye of a powerful, higher-tier entity. The official Marvel/Image solicitation notes that he gains the attention of someone "DIVINE"—and hints that celestial or angelic attention is absolutely not a good thing for this version of Spawn.
  • The Cliffhanger: The creators have heavily teased a shocking, reality-altering twist at the end of this 64-page issue that directly sets up the grand finale in Spawn '77 #3.
