Spider-Man #20, published in March 1992, is the third part of the six-issue "Revenge of the Sinister Six" story arc. Written and illustrated by Erik Larsen, this issue is known for its high-octane action and numerous guest stars.

Main Story: "Showdown!"

Following a brutal defeat by the Sinister Six in the previous issue, Spider-Man attempts to regroup and take down the assembled team of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Mysterio, Hobgoblin, Vulture, and Sandman.

  • Heroic Team-Up: The issue features guest appearances by the Incredible Hulk, Nova, Deathlok, and the teleporting vigilante Solo.
  • The Conflict: Spidey uses "web cannons" to track the villains to a private research facility. During the battle, Solo teleports in with guns blazing, apparently mowing down the Sinister Six, but this is revealed to be a massive illusion created by Mysterio.
  • The Cliffhanger: As the real Sinister Six escapes, Solo is tricked by an illusion into believing Spider-Man is Doctor Octopus and prepares to shoot the unconscious hero.

Backup Story: "Diabolique!"

This issue also contains the second part of a backup story featuring the return of the alchemist Diablo. Spider-Man battles Diablo at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, eventually thwarting the villain's attempt to use a powerful alchemical weapon.
