Spider-Man #7, published in February 1991 (dated 1990), is the second part of the two-issue "Perceptions" story arc. It is written and illustrated by Todd McFarlane and is famous for its atmospheric, dark, and snowy setting.

The Story: "Perceptions, Part 2"

The story concludes a gritty mystery set in the Canadian wilderness:

  • The Team-Up: Spider-Man continues his reluctant alliance with Wolverine to track a child killer in British Columbia.
  • The Conflict: While the local townspeople are convinced the mythical Wendigo is responsible for the murders, Spider-Man suspects a human is behind the crimes.
  • The Twist: They discover the killer is actually a local hunter who has been using the Wendigo legend as a cover. In a brutal ending, the real Wendigo appears and kills the hunter.
  • The Theme: The issue ends with a cynical look at the media; J. Jonah Jameson runs a headline claiming Spider-Man and Wolverine "attacked" the hunter, showing how "perception" overrides the truth.

Why It’s a Collector Favorite

  • McFarlane's Art: This issue features some of Todd's most iconic work on Wolverine, specifically his trademark "spaghetti webbing" and highly detailed, kinetic action sequences.
  • Wolverine Appearance: Team-ups between these two were massive sales drivers in the early '90s.
  • Atmosphere: The use of heavy blacks and falling snow makes it one of the most visually distinct issues of the 1990 series.
