Following the destruction of the multiverse, the remnants of various timelines are stitched together by God Emperor Doom to create Battleworld. The setting for this comic is Arachnia, a hyper-industrialized, noir-tinted domain ruled by a ruthless version of Mayor Norman Osborn.

The primary twist of the issue is psychological: the surviving Spider-Heroes stranded here have absolutely no memory of the multiverse, their original home worlds, or each other. However, they are plagued by an intense sense of déjà vu and a strange, subconscious instinct pulling them together.

Plot Summary: Gathering the Web

• A Shared Disconnection: The story is heavily narrated by Gwen Stacy (Spider-Gwen), who goes about her daily life feeling deeply disconnected, unable to shake the feeling that she belongs to a completely different world.
• The Tracking Ability: Anya Corazon (Spider-Girl) and her mentor Billy Braddock (Spider-UK) are ambushed by Oscorp enforcers. They are suddenly saved by Pavitr Prabhakar (Spider-Man: India). Pavitr reveals a crucial plot point—he has engineered a way to use his spider-sense like a radar to track individuals who share his exact power signature.
• The Resistance Assembles: Using Pavitr's tracking technique, the group successfully locates Gwen Stacy and Spider-Ham. As they piece together their strange connection, Pavitr theorizes that they are literal fragments of a broken multiversal web. They soon trace the signal to Spider-Man Noir, completing the core roster.
• The Trap: Just as the heroes unite, they are brutally ambushed and defeated by Norman Osborn's personal strike force: a Battleworld variant of the Sinister Six. The issue ends on a cliffhanger with the captured heroes brought directly before Mayor Osborn, who shockingly claims he wants to work with them to exploit the "web" hidden inside the universe's DNA.

Legacy of the Issue

While this issue was created as a temporary Secret Wars tie-in, it served an important long-term purpose in Marvel continuity.
