Star Trek #1, published by Marvel Comics in April 1980, is the first issue of Marvel's first ongoing Star Trek series. It begins a three-part adaptation of the 1979 film Star Trek: The Motion Picture, reintroducing the original crew for their big-screen debut. 

Plot and Key Characters

The story follows Admiral James T. Kirk as he retakes command of the newly refit USS Enterprise to intercept a massive, destructive energy cloud known as V'Ger. 

• The Threat: A squadron of Klingon warships is annihilated by the mysterious cloud as it moves toward Earth.
• Internal Conflict: Kirk faces a power struggle with Captain Willard Decker, who was recently demoted to Commander and First Officer to make room for Kirk’s return.
• Tragedy and Arrival: The mission is plagued by early disasters, including a malfunctioning transporter that kills Science Officer Sonak. The issue concludes with the unexpected arrival of Spock, who has felt a telepathic connection to the cloud.
• Core Crew: Features the iconic return of Captain Kirk, Spock, Dr. McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Uhura, and Chekov, alongside new characters like Lt. Ilia.
