Star Trek #2, published by Marvel Comics in May 1980, continues the three-part official comic adaptation of the 1979 film Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Plot: "The Vengeance of V'Ger!"
Picking up where the first issue left off, the story follows the Enterprise as it enters the heart of the massive energy cloud.
- The Probe: A mechanical probe from the cloud, known as V'Ger, appears on the bridge and kills Lieutenant Ilia before kidnapping her.
- The Duplicate: V'Ger sends back a robotic duplicate of Ilia to serve as its "sensor-unit" and observer, interacting with the crew to understand the "carbon units" (humans) inhabiting the ship.
- Decker's Connection: Commander Willard Decker, who was in love with the real Ilia, attempts to awaken the android's dormant memories.
- Spock's Discovery: Spock steals a thruster suit and enters the interior of V'Ger alone, discovering that the entity is an enormous, sentient living machine seeking its "Creator."
