Star Wars: Jedi — The Dark Side #1 is the first issue of a five-part miniseries published by Dark Horse Comics on May 18, 2011. Set in 21 BBY (twenty-one years before A New Hope), the story serves as a prequel to the Star Wars: Republic series and focuses on the backstory of Qui-Gon Jinn.

Plot Summary

The story explores Qui-Gon Jinn’s internal struggles as a Master and the tragic fall of his previous apprentice.

• The Mission: Qui-Gon Jinn and his new Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, are dispatched to the planet Telos IV to prevent a civil war.
• A Personal Connection: The mission is complicated because Telos IV is the homeworld of Qui-Gon’s former apprentice, Xanatos.
• The Backstory: The issue reveals flashbacks to Xanatos’s training. Despite being incredibly gifted, Xanatos was seduced by the wealth and power of his biological father, a corrupt planetary governor.
• The Conflict: Qui-Gon is haunted by his failure to keep Xanatos on the path of the Jedi. As he and Obi-Wan arrive on Telos, they find the planet on the brink of political collapse, with Xanatos’s influence lingering over the unrest.
