Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi #1, published by Dark Horse Comics in October 1993, is a landmark issue that introduced the "Old Republic" era of Star Wars. Set 4,000 years before the original film, it explores the ancient history of the Jedi and Sith.
Story and Setting
The first issue begins the story arc "Ulic Qel-Droma and the Beast Wars of Onderon".
- The Mission: Jedi Master Arca Jeth sends his apprentices—Ulic Qel-Droma, his brother Cay, and Tott Doneeta—to the planet Onderon to settle a centuries-old conflict known as the Beast Wars.
- Conflict at Iziz: Upon arriving in the walled city of Iziz, the Jedi meet Queen Amanoa. During their audience, Beast Riders attack and kidnap Princess Galia, leading the young Jedi on a dangerous rescue mission into the planet's wilds.
- Historical Impact: This series established much of the lore later used in the Knights of the Old Republic video games and books.
