Suicide Squad: Amanda Waller #1 2014 is a standalone one-shot comic published on March 26, 2014, as part of The New 52 era. Written by Jim Zub with art by Andre Coelho, it centers on Amanda Waller’s survival and resourcefulness when she is stripped of her usual resources.

"Sacrifices in the Storm"

The story follows Waller as she faces a life-threatening threat without the protection of A.R.G.U.S. or the Suicide Squad.

  • The Crash: While overseeing the transport of Dr. Algot Issen and his genetic testing equipment, Waller's military cargo jet is blasted out of the sky over New Mexico.
  • The Enemy: The survivors are hunted through an unseasonable blizzard by Kriger-3, a powerful metahuman experiment of Dr. Issen who can absorb and manifest extreme heat and cold energy.
  • Hard Choices: Waller is forced to lead the small group of survivors through the storm while being picked off one by one. The issue culminates in a "hardcore" decision: Waller executes Kriger-3, whom she views as a victim-turned-threat, to ensure immediate survival and later recruits the scientist responsible for the experiment into Task Force X.
  • Placement: This issue takes place chronologically before the events of Suicide Squad Vol. 4 #24.
  • Characterization: The issue is noted for exploring the "steely characterization" of the modern, "skinny" version of Waller, highlighting her strategic mind and willingness to make lethal choices.
