Plot Synopsis

This issue functions as a dark prequel to the main series, revealing the hidden machinations behind the creation of the New 52 Superboy clone (Kon-El):

  • The History of Krypton: The issue opens with the villainous, time-traveling warlord Harvest delivering a lecture to his telepathic subordinate, Omen. He walks her through secret historical documents detailing an ancient clone uprising on Krypton. Centuries ago, Kryptonians used a genetically engineered slave race of clones who eventually rebelled under a violent leader named Kon, nearly ruining the planet before being betrayed and wiped out.
  • The Motivation: Harvest reveals that this bloody Kryptonian history is the exact reason he wants to create a hybrid clone of his own. He believes that combining Kryptonian potential with human genetic material will yield the ultimate unstoppable weapon to wipe out the world's superheroes.
  • The Awakening: The story shifts focus to the secret laboratory of Project N.O.W.H.E.R.E., where a three-month-old clone—Superboy—unexpectedly gains consciousness ahead of schedule. Disoriented and running on raw instinct, he violently triggers a massive explosion, destroying his containment unit and ripping through the lab before being subdued. This chaotic sequence directly bridges the gap and sets up the events of Superboy #1.
