However, it is revealed that his entire "Smallville" life is actually an elaborate virtual simulation run by N.O.W.H.E.R.E. to test his morality and psychological limits.
• The Directive: Because Superboy fails to react to an automated prompt of a woman screaming for help in a burning house, the scientists realize he lacks a conventional human conscience. Despite this flaw, the organization's leader, Templar, demands Superboy be deployed immediately into the real world to track down and eliminate the Teen Titans.
