Story Synopsis 

The issue centers on the "Rematch of the Century" between Superman and a dangerous new version of his greatest foe. 

• The Conflict: Superman and Superwoman are already exhausted from battles with Doomsday and the Time Trapper when a restored Lex Luthor reappears to seize control of Supercorp and Metropolis.
• The Twist: The primary antagonist is revealed to be X-El, a super-powered clone of Lex Luthor who combines the Man of Steel’s abilities with Luthor’s ruthless ambition.
• The Fight: Superman is forced into a brutal showdown with X-El while simultaneously being weakened by Kryptonite poisoning orchestrated by Mercy Graves.
