Superman Unchained # 3 2013 NM

Superman Unchained #3 (released August 14, 2013) is the third issue of the blockbuster 9-issue miniseries launched to celebrate Superman's 75th anniversary. Written by Scott Snyder with spectacular artwork by Jim Lee and Scott Williams, this issue drastically shifts the scale of the story by revealing the world's greatest secret.

The Main Plot: The Secret of Wraith

Following the previous issue's massive drone attack on the Lexcorp Burj building in Dubai, Superman tracks the wreckage to find out who is behind the advanced technology.

• The Revelation: Superman's investigation brings him face-to-face with General Lane at a secret, high-tech military installation. There, General Lane introduces Superman to Wraith—a powerful, alien super-soldier who arrived on Earth in 1938 (the year Superman debuted in the real world).
• The Dynamic: Unlike Superman, who operates independently, Wraith has spent 75 years secretly serving as the United States military's ultimate weapon. Wraith claims he is trying to be a mentor to Superman, but his blind loyalty to the U.S. government sets up an immediate philosophical clash between the two powerhouses.

The Subplot: Lois Lane in Danger

While Clark handles the military's secret alien, Lois Lane is pursuing her own dangerous lead regarding the anti-technology terrorist group known as Ascension.

• The Trap: Lois’s investigation goes sideways when the suborbital plane she is traveling on is hacked and hijacked by Ascension. The issue ends on a massive cliffhanger as the plane is sent into a terrifying, uncontrollable freefall.
