Superman: War of the Supermen #1 is a pivotal comic book published by DC Comics with a release date of May 5, 2010 (cover-dated July 2010). Co-written by James Robinson and Sterling Gates, with art by Jamal Igle, this series serves as the explosive climax to the multi-year "New Krypton" saga that shook the Superman line of books starting in 2008.

The Story Breakdown

The narrative focuses on an all-out, catastrophic war between Earth and New Krypton. Following the assassination of Supergirl's mother, Alura, by the villain Reactron, General Zod uses the tragedy to rally 100,000 super-powered Kryptonians to declare war on Earth.

In this premiere issue, Superman is caught in the worst nightmare imaginable: trying to stop the two worlds he loves from completely annihilating one another. As the Kryptonian military fleet launches a massive, unified march toward Earth, humanity’s xenophobic General Sam Lane (Lois Lane's father) retaliates by unleashing Project 7734—a brutal counter-strategy designed to completely wipe out the Kryptonian race using a weaponized sun.
