Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Crisis on Infinite Earths # 1, released on December 15, 2020, is a 48-page one-shot that reimagines the 1985 landmark event. Written by Steve Orlando and illustrated by Mike Perkins, the story explores a tragic timeline where Earth-2 survives as the primary Earth instead of Earth-1. 

The Dread Lantern 

The issue picks up after the Anti-Monitor's defeat, but in this reality, the Justice Society of America (JSA) failed to prevent the Ragnarok prophecy. 

• The Fallen League: The Justice League of Earth-1, stranded on this new Earth-2-based world, is completely annihilated by the fire giant Surtur.
• A Final Stand: The surviving heroes of the All-Star Squadron and JSA attempt to stop Surtur's rampage across Washington, D.C.. The battle is a massacre, claiming the lives of major icons including Wonder Woman, Doctor Fate, and the Spectre.
• The Dark Sacrifice: Realizing the heroes cannot defeat Surtur, Alan Scott (Green Lantern) makes a soul-crushing bargain. He agrees to become Surtur’s herald, known as the Dread Lantern, leading the giant to destroy other worlds in exchange for sparing Earth.
• The Aftermath: While Earth survives, it is at the cost of untold trillions of lives across the universe, as the Dread Lantern carries out his grim oath. 
• Alan Scott (Green Lantern / Dread Lantern): The tragic protagonist who sacrifices his soul for Earth's survival.
• Surtur: The primary antagonist, a fire giant who thrives on destruction.
