Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Flashpoint #1 (published in December 2020, despite the user's 2021 date query) explores a horrifying "what if" scenario where Barry Allen dies while attempting to restore the original timeline, leaving the dark Flashpoint reality permanent and vulnerable to the machinations of the Reverse-Flash, Eobard Thawne.
The story diverges from the original Flashpoint event at the moment Barry Allen attempts to regain his speed via an electric chair connected to chemicals in the Batcave of Thomas Wayne (this world's Batman).
- Barry Allen's Death: Instead of successfully restoring his powers, the process kills Barry, leaving the Flashpoint reality unaltered and ongoing.
- Eobard Thawne's Ascension: With Barry, his primary obsession, dead, the Reverse-Flash (Eobard Thawne) is freed from the restrictions of time. He embraces this new, broken world, now the fastest man alive with no hero to stop him.
- Thawne's World Domination: Thawne uses his powers and knowledge of the "real" timeline to manipulate events, effectively becoming the de facto ruler of Earth. He blackmails the U.S. President, kills Aquaman to end the Amazon-Atlantean war, and seeks to reshape the world in his image.
- Thomas Wayne's Obsession: Thomas Wayne, the Batman of this world, becomes Thawne's primary antagonist. He is obsessed with the memory of the "real" timeline where his son Bruce is Batman and tries to force Thawne to go back in time and save Bruce's life.
- A Dark Deal: Thawne nearly falls to the captive "Project Superman," but Thomas Wayne kills the weak Superman, ensuring Thawne's survival in a twisted hope that Thawne will one day restore the "true" Batman.
- The World Continues: In the end, the Flashpoint reality persists, a dark reflection of the DC Universe ruled by a villain who has found a twisted purpose in a world without his rival.
This one-shot was written and drawn by Bryan Hitch and is a key part of the larger Dark Nights: Death Metal event, exploring grim possibilities within the DC Multiverse.
