Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Infinite Crisis # 1, released on November 27, 2019, is an oversized one-shot that reimagines the 2005 Infinite Crisis event. Written by James Tynion IV with art by Aaron Lopresti and Matt Ryan, the story explores a tragic timeline where Ted Kord (Blue Beetle) survives his intended death.

The story diverges from the original continuity at the moment Maxwell Lord attempts to execute Ted Kord.

  • The Survival: Instead of dying, Blue Beetle manages to kill Maxwell Lord first.
  • The Descent: Ted assumes control of the Checkmate organization and the Brother Eye satellite to preemptively stop the coming crisis.
  • The Crisis: While Ted successfully prevents the Rann-Thanagar War and the Villains United uprising, he becomes increasingly paranoid and dictatorial.
  • The Transformation: To maintain control, Ted falls under the influence of Brother Eye and merges with the O.M.A.C. virus, becoming a powerful cyborg entity known as O.B.A.C. (One-Beetle-Army Corps).
  • The Tragedy: The issue concludes with Ted inadvertently causing the deaths of many of Earth's heroes, including his best friend Booster Gold, and establishing himself as the world's most powerful "protector" through total surveillance and control.
  • Blue Beetle (Ted Kord): The tragic protagonist who becomes the very crisis he sought to prevent.
  • Booster Gold: Ted's loyal friend who tries and fails to stop his descent into villainy.
  • Maxwell Lord: Killed by Ted in the opening pages, sparking the timeline divergence.
  • Alexander Luthor & Superboy-Prime: Antagonists whose plans for the multiverse are thwarted and then co-opted by the new Blue Beetle.
  • Writer: James Tynion IV.
  • Pencils: Aaron Lopresti.
  • Inks: Matt Ryan.
  • Cover Art: Lee Weeks and Brad Anderson.
