Tangent Comics: Green Lantern #1 (1997) features a non-canonical, mystical version of the Green Lantern who uses her lantern to resurrect the dead temporarily, allowing them to resolve their unfinished business and find peace.

Main Plot: "From Beyond the Unknown"

The issue introduces a mysterious female Green Lantern who possesses a magical lantern rather than a power ring. Her power allows her to bring the spirits of deceased individuals back to life for a short time so they can achieve justice and finally rest in peace.

The story serves as a framing device for three separate tales, each focusing on a different resurrected character:

  • Captain Comet's Tale: A Black superhero from the 1960s who died in the line of duty is resurrected. He uses his temporary return to expose the U.S. Senator responsible for planting the bomb that led to his and others' deaths, ensuring justice is served, though he does not physically harm the now-remorseful politician.
  • King Faraday's Tale: The spirit of a deceased private investigator returns to solve his final, elusive murder case: the killing of a millionaire named Ralph Digby. He reveals to his friend, the publisher Roy Raymond, that Raymond himself is the murderer, driven by a desire to save his publishing company from Digby's corporate takeover.
  • Michelle Curry's Tale: A deceased reporter is resurrected to deliver a forgotten letter to her son, Arthur Curry (this universe's version of Aquaman), revealing that his father is none other than "Captain Boomerang" (Adam Clay), a pilot and war hero.

The issue connects these disparate characters and events within the alternate "Tangent Comics" universe, showcasing a world where heroes and their powers are vastly different from the mainstream DC continuity.
