Plot Summary

The story follows the career jewel thief Black Fox, who inadvertently steals a family heirloom belonging to Doctor Doom's mother—a gem known as the Dragon's Egg. 

• A Brutal Confrontation: When Doom arrives to reclaim his property, Spider-Man interferes to protect the elderly Black Fox. Spider-Man is severely outmatched and suffers a brutal beating, including a concussion.
• The 24-Hour Ultimatum: Cornered, Spider-Man manages to convince Doom to give him 24 hours to track down the Black Fox and recover the jewel.
• Hallucinations of the Past: While recovering from his injuries, Peter Parker experiences a hallucination of Uncle Ben, which leads to a retelling of his origin story and helps him realize why he has been so lenient with the Black Fox in the past.
• Stopping a Global Threat: Spidey tracks the thief to a cult called the Arcane Order of the Night, which intends to use the Dragon's Egg to summon a swarm of carnivorous insects. Spider-Man and the Black Fox team up to defeat the cult and prevent the disaster.
• The Resolution: Spider-Man returns the gem to Doom. In a rare display of "moral high ground," Doom spares the Black Fox's life but punishes him by crushing the separate diamond the thief intended to use for his retirement. For the first time, Spider-Man refuses to let the Black Fox go and takes him into custody.
