The Flash # 1 2016 NM

The Flash #1 (2016) marks the start of a major new era for the character as part of the DC Universe Rebirth initiative. It is highly notable for featuring the first full appearance of August Heart, who later becomes the speedster villain Godspeed. 

Plot Summary

The story, titled "Deus Ex Machina!" and part of the "Lightning Strikes Twice" arc, focuses on Barry Allen's struggle to balance his dual life. 

• Overwhelmed Hero: Barry is exhausted as he attempts to save every person in Central City as both a forensic scientist and a superhero.
• The Black Hole: Flash intervenes in a shootout at S.T.A.R. Labs involving a new rogue group called the Black Hole.
• A New Speedster: During the conflict, Barry’s friend and colleague, Detective August Heart, is struck by a bolt of lightning and gains Speed Force powers, seemingly taking down the attackers faster than Flash.
• Rebirth Mystery: The issue also touches on the return of the original Wally West, who warns Barry that an unknown force is watching them and has altered the timeline.
